Bring a touch of wartime realism and historical accuracy to your domestic gardens, allotments, and railway embankments with this Pair of Anderson Shelters. Featuring two unique designs—one fitted with a wooden door and the other with a galvanised corrugated steel door—these models come half-covered with earth and sandbags for added protection. Designed to be set into the ground, they perfectly capture the improvisational spirit and civilian defense of 1940s Britain. Ideal for model railway layouts, wartime dioramas, and military tabletop gaming, they provide an instantly recognizable piece of social history for any residential or rural scene.

Perfect For

  • Terraced back gardens, suburban allotments, and rural farmyards
  • Wartime home front scenes, air raid precautions (ARP) displays, and bomb damage areas
  • WWII and mid-century layouts (Era 3, Era 4, Era 5, and preserved heritage sites)
  • Adding domestic detail, environmental depth, and narrative realism to civilian townscapes

About the Shelters First distributed in 1939 to prepare for the Blitz, over 3.6 million Anderson shelters were installed across Britain during World War II. Measuring a compact 6.5ft long by 4.5ft wide and 6ft high, these corrugated steel structures were designed to be sunk half into the ground, with excavated soil or sandbags piled overhead to absorb shockwaves and shrapnel. Due to wartime material shortages, entry doors were custom-built from whatever salvaged timber or steel sheet was at hand, with residents stepping down inside via ladders or makeshift footstools. Built to endure, thousands of these shelters survived long after 1945, remaining in place as garden sheds, root cellars, and historic relics on British properties to this day.
